Review: Duke's Recipe
If you live in the United States and own a television set, you may already be familiar with Duke, the Golden Retriever spokesdog for the Bush's Beans company who is featured in their commercials, usually trying to sell the secret family recipe to complete strangers.
Duke actually has quite a fan following. After all, he's an adorable Golden Retriever. Duke now has a new project called Duke's Tails, which is going to be a series of children's books. Right now, there's only the first one, "Duke Finds a Home", which tells the story of how Duke came to be adopted by Jay Bush.
A couple of weeks ago, I received an email from Justin, who works for a company doing publicity for the Duke's Tails book and he asked me whether I would mind talking about the book on my dog blog to help get the word out. The reason they would like dog bloggers to talk about this book is that proceeds of it go to the American Humane Society. They are hoping to raise $50,000, and thus far have raised more than $12,000 - it's a great start.
I told Justin that even though this was a great cause, I would not make any promises to review the book unless I actually liked it, and he was okay with that. He mailed me a copy and you know what - I really, really liked it. Okay, so it's a book designed for little children, but the story is very cute and the artwork, done by Rob Lawson, is just beautiful. The small image at the top of this entry will give you an idea of the style. It's a background scene from one of the first pages. (There's even a German Shepherd in it named George, who gets adopted by a police officer.)
So this one definitely gets a thumbs up from me, and a paw up from Abby as well. To read more about Duke's Tails and order a copy for yourself (and to support the Humane Society), check the Duke's Tails website by clicking here.
